A very good book for the basics of COM: "Understanding ActiveX and OLE" by David Chappell. ISBN: 1-57231-261-5. It's aimed at developers as well as managers. So, it doesn't go very deep into details, but covers all the important stuff and explains it in a very understandable manner. Any other good book on COM will be easy to understand after David Chappell's explanations.
