By remote, do you mean dial-up with a modem? Or the table is in a database like SQL Server or Oracle? You can create a parameterized view of the table so only a limited number of records are returned at a time. A parameterized view would have a WHERE clause with a filter something like where SomeKeyField = ?lnKeyID. If you are retrieving graphics, you may have to live with a long time to retrieve depending on the graphics size.
