Found some answers myself.

FoxPro Advisor magazine March 98 great solution by Christof Lange, and later referred to by editor Tamar Granor in Sept 98.

Also, FoxTalk magazine May 96 articl by David Diehl and March 97 by Rick Borup.

Since my dates are character fields (YYMMDD) I have taken David Diehl's EPOCH() function and modified it to fit my needs. Looks like I will not have to alter anything except the index tags for my tables. The 2/29/00 leap day will be a problem, but I'm going to declare it a non-day for my small business, and we'll all go on early spring break that day.

I hope it doesn't slow things down too much, to have functions in the index tags.
