>I am creating a text to speech application and wish the product to speak the menu prompts when the user moves through the menu. The problem seems to be the fact that a menu does have a set focus method and therefore it is difficult (impossible??) to retrieve the actual bar that the cursor is positioned on. thanks for your reply I will keep searching and let you know if I find anything.

UNfortunately, VFP menus are not objects, and therefore do not have associated events. Another thing I considered is a function i nthe message clause of the DEFINE BAR, but that doesn't seem to work either. If this is ever going to work, I think it will have to be through the Windows API.
