I did read about the bookmarks, and I think I understand how they work.
They seem to be very similiar to the merge fields that I am presently using in my mailmerge documents. But,,,,, I have 6 totally different letters that need to be produced. The value that is found in each record of the source dbf will determines which document will be used for the mailmerge. Once the document is chosen then the letter can be produced from the values that are in the appropriate fields of that record.
If I understand your suggestion, then I would use 6 differnt templates with each template containing the body of my letter with bookmarks that would allow for the variable data. After I learn how to get the data from each record in the source dbf, I still do not understand how I can pass this source dbf (with thousands of records), 1 time, selecting the appropriate template so that when the letters are printed they will be in the exact same order as the source dbf.
It seems that in your suggestion as in my request, I MUST have an external program that;
1. SCANS the source dbf
2. CALLS WORD and the appropriate "template"
3. "Merges" the data from the source dbf into the
"template"
4. Prints the letter.
Still lost and confused!!!
Thanks,
David
