George, my testing shows that GetFileVersion() works as long as the user has at least read privileges on both the file being tested and directory it resides in when the file is on an NTFS volume shared to both Win98 and NT 4.0 systems, when the user is authorized either as a local user, or as a domain member with valid rights on the target system.
