Yeah, I've been through that exact problem. Very annoying. Now that you've struggled through MAPI successfully, I have an alternate suggestion. If you know that client will always be outlook you can use automation. This works quite well and it's a lot easier and more flexible than using MAPI. Of course, if you need it to work with other clients it won't cut it.
