I want to convert a reqular index for a field to a primary index (key field). When I try to do it I get the error message

Uniqueness of index "name" is violated (Error 1884)

I tried using a sql select command to find duplicate records by displaying the field count of occurences sort by field value. All counts are 1. I am confused. What causes that error message and how do I fix it? TIA.
