I always take off any 'cost of doing business' from my business income. That is basically any expense that is not billed to a client. To me that includes education, trianing, training materials, software, magazines, books, etc.
This includes, internet connection, UT fees, support fees, etc.
There may be a CPA here that will correct me, but that is always how I do it.
