I haven't tested this myself, but two people (Ken Levy and Randy Brown) have told me that string processing in VFP is about 100x faster than in VB. Ken said he did a FILETOSTR() on a 300K file and it took 0.1 seconds. VB also gets a lot slower as strings get bigger because of the way string storage is done in VB.
