Just add a gig of ram for a ram disk and no performace problems. Heck we load Outlook, IE4, PcAnywhere, SBT, TIW, and our in house ERP on start up becasue people like to bitch. ;-) I love to tell them to just REBOOT if it ain't working fast enough.
Set reality on
Don't load anything in startup. Get yourself more ram than you think sane and things will work better.
