>I was testing how a VFP 6.0 application would react to a power failure while dbf files and the database are open. After testing one dbf file has had some sort of damage that I can't figure out how to correct. When opened shared the table has one more record than when opened exclusive. I have tried packing and reindexing but still have a record count difference of 1. If I browse on the record that shows up when the table is opened shared it displays either as a duplicate record of one just above it or as unprintable characters or as a blank.

Handling data errors like this is important, and while you can't guarantee that they won't happen, you can minimize them. Look at the article on my web site that discusses data corruption.
