Radical that I am, I've never shrunk from violating community standards. (When there is a good reason. :) I just checked Word and the Alt key works there also (has the same function as the F10 key). I will check out Word Perfect and Lotus another time.
I would say that the alt key is more intuitive for this task then the F10 key (since users are used to the idea that alt + letter will activate something on the menu). So I see no reason (other than tradition) to dedicate a useful key like F10 to the same task. (My users who are migrating from DataFlex to FoxPro are used to pressing the F10 key to save.)
