Oh, that dbx was a typo...should have been dcx. But as for my problem, I couldn't open/use/compile the dbc at all (same error). So I had to delete the dcx and VFP recreated the index automatically when I opened the dbc again. It works now. Thanks for your suggestions.

>Ack. Can you open it at all? If so, you could do a VALIDATE DATABASE RECOVER. I don't think there's such a thing as a DBX file...DBC,DCT,DCX. If you can't even open the thing at all, backup your files and try running a COMPILE DATABASE. It might recreate the index.
