I have no problem in 3.0 or 5.0.

Are you sure you are using the right characters? As in, zeroes for zeroes and o's for o's?

And you've checked that
DELETE FILE test.txt
works, right? It isn't a current directory problem then.

Have you copied the VFP command and pasted it into a command prompt window while at the right directory and changed DELETE to DEL and taken out FILE and made sure that works? Just to make sure you have the correct filename....
