>>>>Thanx for the input guys. Edward indicates that he can do a MMerge in Word97 on Free tables, but I am not able to. I still get "WORD WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DATA SOURCE". I am not new to MMerge or importing data so this is quite frustrating. MS Office tech support staff were having the same prob as I and told me that they would get back to me when the work it out (10 days ago!). If you two can do this I must be missing something. If you wouldn't mind looking at the info below and telling me if you see something that stands out, I would appreciate it.

I have tried using both local data and network data. I have attempted to MMerge on using three different PC's.

Kevin described selecting VFP2.5 or VFP3 OR LATER from a dialog box in Word (see his comments at the bottom of this posting). My relevant options are DBASE FILES .DBF and MS FOXPRO FILES .DBF... I have nothing indicating versions 2.5 or 3+. After I select either of them, and then locate the table I want to use as source data, I am prompted with a CONFIRM DATA SOURCE box, in which I must select DBASE VIA ODBC or FOXPRO FILES VIA ODBC. I do not understand why this box appears, given that I already selected the type. At any rate, either selection results in the same "WORD WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DATA SOURCE" dialog.

>>>I am Ok with you until the "Word was unable to open the data source". Are you sure you're trying to open a valid FOX2X table? That should be the first check. I've done this several times in the past with no problem, passing through the oddity of the 2 similar dialogs you described.

>>>A side comment: VFP6 ODBC drivers are much newer than Office 97 ones, so I hoped you installed them after.

Thanx, but I already tried that as per a suggestion with Ms Office97 support. I could open the file via MS QUERY but I could not save/use the results. The MS Office97 support tech, had the same prob.

Anything else cross your mind???
