I'd start by defragmenting my hard drive; you're going to want to clean up any disk fragmentation before doing anything else.

If you can make a new, empty address book using a different file name or path (or better, rename the current address book and restore one from backup that you knew worked) and the problem goes away, it's in all likelihood a problem with the address book file itself.

If that fails, I'd try reinstalling WP over the existing installation, and hope that it's a corrupted copy of one of WordPerfect's components.

If you added something else just before you noticed that things got broken, you might try uninstalling it if all else fails.
