It has 2 indexes whose keys total 38 bytes, yet the size of the CDX file is over 120 megs - around 270 bytes per record. And Bill's VFP help says CDX indexes are compressed! The table also has memo file of around 50 megs. If anyone has suggestions as to whats going on and how the CDX size might be reduced, it would be appreciated.

In addition to what you've been told about the CDX...the same thing applies to the FPT. When you add something to the memo field, the WHOLE memo field is appended to the end of the FPT, causing file bloat. Use PACK MEMO to recover the space.
