>We are using VFP 3.0 and the setup wizard is giving us a fit. We get error 279 when trying to load the first distribution diskette on another PC. Microsoft could not help after 1.5 hours on the phone. Any suggetions from any one out there? Any third party setup software that does a better job than the wizard??

First of all if you need to run on 3.1 stick with VFP 3.0, 5.0 is a better product, but will not run in 3.1.

Second, Error 279 has to do with 3.1 not supporting any non 8.3 format names. Make sure all your forms, files, reports, labels, menus, etc are
all 8.3 name format ( myfile.txt example). If you have even one file
that is not 8.3 the setup fails and gives error 279 or 289. (my experience was with a typo in a file name called no..gif instead of no.gif) Win 95 worked fine but 3.1 crashed every time. Gave me fits for weeks.

To speed this I wrote code that loads up the pjx file as a table and scans the name field and spits out anything not 8.3. Now I never have problems with it.

HTH

PS MS support should have been able to help you with this. It is a common error.
