I do not believe it's a case of whether you are using MSIE or Netscape or any other browser for that matter.

The catch is actually (as I discovered from my own experience of the problem) that there are 2 ways to access UT. The direct way is via www.transformation.com/universa, which is what most people replying to this type of message appear to assume is the method you have used, and the indirect way (see below).

If you used the direct way then Dave's answer is exactly right; click on the box below the name+password login. However, if you arrived here via the indirect way using the www.vfug.org login, then in that login screen there is no box to click on for any "messages" because that is not the direct access to UT.

So next time you experience a browser crash make sure you reenter via www.transformation.com/universa mentioned route and you will then have the referenced box to retrieve those miscreant messages (g).
