My rough guess would be that NT 4.0+ is a newer OS and known to recover more gracefully from conflicts in almost all situations.
What I would like to see, and I guess only Randy Brown could provide it, is master list of "don't go theres" --- reproducible C0000005s. Otherwise known as "Things to avoid until we fix 'em" ... some are in the KB but they're hard to weed out.
