From the VFP Help on WAIT:

WINDOW Displays the message in a system message window located in the upper-right corner of the main Visual FoxPro window. The window can be temporarily hidden by pressing the CTRL or SHIFT key.

A MESSAGEBOX() might do what you need, or a simple form of some sort.
