When you are scanning large colour, high resolution pictures, a lot of scanners will need a lot of RAM. I've seen several machines with only 32 Mb RAM hang when they try to scan large pictures. Also, you might want to make sure the computer has enough video memory to display the scans as you would like. Most scanner drivers allow you to adjust some settings (brightness, contrast, colour settings, etc.) before the scan. This is sometimes preferred over post-scan processing. It is hard to do if the preview will not show in the actual number of colours and resolution of the scan.

Hi Joe - The best we can do for now is a P100 with 16 RAM (ouch!) for a new HP 6250Cse scanner - in about 6 months we'll have a better machine to dedicate to it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to do anything more than scan a little text until then :)

I found a SCSI card, hopefully it'll work :) If not, I'll check out that site....
