>>>ok gang....yet another question about GPLib, Novell, NT and the general insanity surrounding.

>>>VFP 3.0 - data sits on a Novell server

>>>Needs to be reached by users on NT workstations. The workstations are connected to the domain server and through THAT are connected to the Novell tree.

>>>I told the Network guy that he had to have the Novell Client loaded on the server - and he replied that the Novell Client is loaded on each workstation, why doesn't that work? I don't know enough about NT and the interaction with Novell to answer that....but I'm guessing that having something on the workstation is VASTLY different from running it on the server....could anyone give me a clear, concise explanation that I can pass on?

>>The client can not run on the server. It is used by the workstations to login to a Novell network. For a Novell workstation to have access to an NT server, you have to have bothe the MS and Novell client loaded on the workstation. Your NT guru should be able to connect your workstation to the NT server without disabling the Novell login as well.
>>
>>The way it works is the Novell login is primary. Once logged in the MS client pops up for you to login on the NT side as well. You then have access to both worlds.

It looks like the network guy is using GSNW (Gateway Service for Netware) on the NT file server to act sort of like a tunnel from your work station through the NT server onto Novell. This does work but you do not have to do it that way. Yes you can load the client on the workstation for Novell and the client for NT. Normally the Novell client for Novell loads IXP for connectivity to Novell and NT uses either Netbeui or TCP/IP for NT.

Goto www.novell.com / Free Downloads / Client 4.6 for NT.

If you have the same User Id / Password on Novell as you do NT your primary login will connect you to the other. If not you have to login into both the NT Domain and the Novell Tree (4.0 +). Works great, been doing it this way for years. I have had problems in the past at certain sites with Novell Client on Win 95/98. But never at my site. I am working with Novell on some issues right now with Foxpro and Novell 5.0
What ben makes tracks for what wil be. Words in the air pirnt foot steps on the groun for us to put our feet in to.
