>>>Hi everyone,
>>> I am currently using R&R Report Writer for my reporting needs. However, my organization is switching to Crystal Reports 7.0. Unfortunately, I have two tables of Accounts Receivables, one for open and the other for historical records. When I needed information from both in the same report, I could use the SCANNING() function in R&R. How does Crystal Reports link two like tables together into one report? Does crystal have a similar function?

>>Hi Bill,

>>Yes, you can create a linked sub-report in Crystal that will do what R&R's SCANNING() function would do. After using R&R for many years and recently switching to Crystal, I found this feature in Crystal to be much better than R&R's multi-scanning feature. You can place the sub-report where you want it and it is a completely separate report design but can be linked to the parent.

Bill,

1) Click the Insert, Section menu option.
2) Insert a section where you want to include the subreport such as a group footer section.

3) Click the Insert, Subreport menu option.
4) Enter a name for the report and click the report expert button.
5) Design the subreport just like you would any other report using your child table.

6) Once you are finished with the report expert, you will be returned to the original subreport dialog. Click the Link tab.

7) Select the field(s) that will link the two reports together (parent/child).
8) Once you close this dialog, drag the subreport box to the section created in steps 1 & 2.

This should get you started. I think you will agree that Crystal is much better than R&R in this area and others.

Good luck,

James
