>I am having problems using Filer on a Windows 98 machine with a four gig hard drive and 128k of memory. I get an error message of "Insufficent Memory". Is this problem caused by the size of the partitioned drive or is this a Windows 98 problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Joe,
I've gotten that on a Win95 machine, so it's not a 98 problem. It's also a slow machine (200mHz), so it's not the fast machine problem either. I didn't always have the problem, it's a recent occurrence. The only differences that I can see are:
1) The default directory which Filer first opens has a LOT of files in it and more have been added. Perhaps there is an inherent limitation as to the number of files that Filer can handle.
2) The only other recent problem that I've had with my PC is that I had the CIH virus (undetected by VShield until April 26th (old .DAT files) --- kapowie!) It happened 3 days before I was to leave on vacation and now having returned just a few days ago, I've not gotten my system totally reconfigured, so I have no idea if the virus had anything to do with it (unlikely, but the thought occurred to me because the viral-infection was recent, and so was the "insufficient memory" problem). Anyway, once I get everything up and running, that's one of the first things I'll check out. I'll let you know (may still be a coupla days). I'm installing Win98 this time also, instead of Win95.
