Stephen,
This is the type of post that could get nominated for "Post That Generated Most Sarcastic Anti-MS Responses"

Anyway, all kidding aside...

To explain it to a layman (manager, putz, whatever you call them). Access is a great business tool for people who have little experience in programming where the intended result is to use a small database. In theory, Access can handle large databases, but by my expeiences and many of our peers, in practical terms, it really can't.

Advantages of Access over Foxpro
1. VB/Access programmers are a dime a dozen. It's relatively easy to find replacement/new staff when necessary.
2. Development Time in Access tends to be shorter.
3. Access has MUCH better internal reporting tools.

FoxPro over Access
1. OOP, OOP, OOP! polymorphism, active inheritance, you name it VFP has it.
2. Much faster processing. Although Access give you better screen I/O, the fox engine beats the hell out of everything on the market. The Jet engine uses what I call quasi-Rushmore. Basically, it can't cut the mustard.
3. Better data integrity/control. Also better application segmentation. Easy to build modular apps. MUCH easier to incorporate data updates.

As anybody else here would be....I'm biased. But the fact remains...Access gets pushed....included in Office....Marketed out the butt....yet VFP is still alive and kicking....without any of that type of marketing support. VFP speaks for itself.

HTH
I try to stay online, to get better information.
I try to get away from the office once in a while..
But they KEEP... PULLING.. ME.. BACK.. IN!!!
