I don't think the question is what can and what can't be done - almost everything can be done in any language, do I want to write my next data warehouse application in machine code - no - but it can be done. Btw, If I am not mistaken it was proven that any thing you can accomplish in a modern computer can be achived using a turing machine...

The decision to choose a specific tool for a specific probelm is a combination of different critiria, such as what are the specific strengths of the tool, the availability or proficiency of the available talent in the tool etc. nad these change from problem to problem. IMHO in many cases the answer the answer can be VFP - but in many other cases the answer is any other tool and/or combination of tools. There is no single right answer here
