Guys,

This is not the point I was trying to make. I don't doubt your ability to translate code from VB to VFP, but the lack of examples does demonstrate a marketing problem. Consider it from the point of view of a project manager who has no bias to any language, but has to develop a product that is to incorporate speech. Which language would you pick? The one with clear and explicit examples or the one that is not even mentioned in the documentation? Even though a VFP developer could translate the VB code, the VB developer is going to have a better case for implementing the system using VB.

Roxanne made some valid points in her posting, but I don't agree that when a big shot IS/MIS/IT VP looks at you and says "Fox What" is a marketing problem. This is a symptom of poor marketing!!
I agree with Roxanne in that MS is not intentionally doing this, but MS has appointed product and marketing managers that specifically work on promoting VFP. Its these guys that should be doing all they can to ensure that VFP gets the coverage and visibility it deserves. In fact these guys promised the developers at the '97 DevCon in London that it would get as much coverage as all other MS development languages. Maybe things are different in the States, I have heard that Europe is two years behind in terms of IT, but VFP is certainly not getting as much attention as the other languages here in Europe. In fact, about the only time you see VFP mentioned in the media is in the wanted adds: 'Fox Developer wanted to assist in converting Fox system to VB. Benefits xtrain to VB…'

So, what would I like to see? It be nice to see VFP getting the attention it deserves. In my mind, the marketing managers should have an easy job when it comes to this what can only be called a superior product. Everybody uses the proverb, the right tool for the right job and when we consider that every system is essentially a database, VFP is the natural choice. Hopefully, MS turn things around very soon, and get the text changed in the wanted adds to 'converting existing system to VFP'
