>I would like to personally state for the record, that if any person thinks that there is a lack of sample code for VFP, they just aren't looking hard enough.
>
>Now, I will admit that there are times when a new or obscure ActiveX control comes out, it is hard to find specific samples for this code, but, this is what learning FoxPro is all about. Perhaps a sample the uses a TreeView can help you with that spiffy ActiveCube, etc. Remember, most samples are just there to get you started... not to do it for you... even though I have used many functions as is from various publications.

>Ok... so, here is my list of where to find sample code for VFP 6.0.

>1. _FFC also know as the Fox Foundation Classes... while I admit some of this stuff is barley usable, there are alot of fine classes there to learn various techniques. The beauty of these classes is you can use them standalone in your own project, or you can use the whole application builder/framework package.

>Just to name a few things that have come out of this that I have seen various pros grab... Trace Aware Timers, OLE Code, Project Hooks, etc.
>
>2. Universal Thread... I have never failed to find something similar to or exactally what I was looking to implement in the files section here. There must be hundereds of downloads of code by some of the 'gurus' you see here on UT.

>3. FoxTalk - I have to say that this publication is well worth the $150 per year... Doug Hennigs Report Objects in the May 1999 article alone was worth hundreds of hours of development time... Also, the most recent two part Article by Jim Falino was, while not much code, full of an incredible amount of information for moving your application to client server... I am sure many of the paragraphs that are in that article represent hundereds of hours of trouble shooting.
>FoxTalk has been in publication for a long time, and when I subscribed to the Paper/Electronic subscription, I was able to access the last two years of Articles, in addition to the next years worth I had just paid for. You also get a great search engine and downloads of all the code.

>4. FoxAdvisor... This magazine has given us so many plug and play solutions I can't even coun't the thousands of hours I have saved with some of the code in this pbulication. Oh, where do I start, how about Christof Langes Y2K soultion for Fox 2.6. The scctext.prg correction that allows you to actually use the view difference feature of Source Safe. I have implemented Jim Duffys audit code in my app also. Granted I have modified it, and expanded it, and 'I think' improved it, but what I got from the mag probably saved me about a month or two of coding. You can order back years issues of FoxAdvisor on a CD for $50 (I think) that have all the articles, and code samples for that year.

>5. Books - Besides the information the you get from VFP books, there is usually a CD full of source code. Jim Booths book has alot of great code samples... One of the best things is the RI code that he provides... basically instead of a function for every RI trigger, Jim's code is table driven and you just set up your RI by filling out a table, something we are all familiar with.

>6. Free frameworks... If you want to learn class design by seeing it in action, check out the Free CodeBook 6.0 and the free Visual MaxFrame. These are frameworks that were designed by 'gurus' People like Yair Alan Griver and Paul Bienik for Codebook, and Drew Speedie for MaxFrame. These guys know what they were doing when they put these togther... one of the most popular Commercial Frameworks on the market is modeled on the original CodeBook 3, and while it is much improved and redesiged at this point, alot of the basic ideas are still in there.
