Hi Ellen
I haven't opened the visual database designer for a long while now (our database is so big the visual designer slows to a crawl and is not very usable)
so I am not sure how you would make sure of that visually

We usually generate our database using xCASE (i.e. programatically) and it seems to work ok
I guess you can probably use GenDBC (or GenDBCX) to get the code of your DBC and regenerate it

As for forms - again, I don't use a DE so I don't have the pathing problem there, but when I did I used DEs, I used to have them as prgs (i.e. as objects, so that I would be able to subclass DEs and use them with form classes).
Having the DEs in code - I was able sure they used relative paths as well
