It's going to be slow, no matter what. Loading Outlook/Exchange apps on their own is slow, as you know, so you can't expect OLE to be any better...plus the OLE has additional overhead. The best you can do, really, is to use a splash screen/message making it clear you're enabling Outlook messaging (or some such message) so the users won't blame your app so much for being slow :)

Also, if the user won't necessarily be using any OLE automation, of course, don't load them until absolutely needed, as you do with Word...
