I don't think that's a problem, I never use the same folder for development and live data, all my projects are inside their own folder in a folder named DEV, and I've used completely different names for the installation folders with no problems. I "assume" thar fox looks for the hardcoded dbc path, and if it doesn't find it, it searches through the specified path, the one specified with SET PATH TO. So I thought I'd do just that, use a folder name that will not be available on the installed application.
