Saying the problem is the "TCP/IP protocol" is opening a large can of worms. Could you give a brief outline of your network and/or TCP/IP topology?

Do you have any machine or router that has to bridge or protocol translate on-the-fly when you're running TCP/IP? For example, does your NT server have 2 network cards and is bridging a TCP/IP network with an IPX (probably Novell) one?
