I'm still confused then. If you field is stretching to match the height of the data, why do you need to shrink anything?

>Thanks for responding, Nancy. No, that's not the problem. When the line stretches, I want to vary the line height. The fixed height is too tall. IOW, I want to reduce the gap between the lines when it stretches, without reducing the font.
