Hi Sylvain,
What I meant to say is that when there were only six teams the chances of winning the Stanley cup were better. I think that with a league with 26 teams and like you said a diluted product it is more difficult.
Here is another problem with hockey:
When hockey was good we saw guys playing hockey to win games and then maybe make the series and after that the ultimate goal win the Stanley cup. When you won the Stanley cup then it would also give you more money which is alright because you proved that you team was better than the other teams.
Now we see Businessmen playing hockey to win... money (if in the same process they can win games its alright) and then maybe make the series (to win more money) and ultimately renegotiate a big contract at the end of the year (oh yes maybe win a Stanley cup before renegotiate that big contract would give more money)
Anyway I think that too much money too soon is what's wrong with the sports in general. There was a time when you had to play several good seasons before getting a good contract. Now a junior entering in the national league without having played a game with the big guys can negotiate a multi-million dollars contract.
