I have an application in FPW 2.6a that has been working fine on WFW, Win 95 and Win 98 and some Win NT 4.0 systems for the past 3-4 years. I have added the Abri patch for faster processors. I am getting a new error on several systems. My system starts and displays an introductory screen then as it starts to display the next screen it produces a

"1002 I/O Operation Failure"

"A hardware or Operating system Failure has occurred. After you are returned to windows you should exit to DOS."

I have traced the code through the Setup of the called screen with no problem. Between the exit from the setup method and the display of the screen the error occurs.

One machine has NT 4.0 Workstation and the program works fine. It also has NT Terminal Server as a dual boot and the error occurs if run from the terminal server boot.

Another machine has WIN 98 and it fails when run from a normal boot, but runs if started in safe mode.

Another identical Win 98 machine from the same manufacturer with the same processor, memory, vidio and disk runs fine in Win 98.

Three 500Mhz Dell systems were purchased in the same lot with Win NT 4.0 workstation. One runs fine the other two give the error.

I guess the problem is either a vidio driver or some DLL that is different between systems. Any guesses as to what to look for?
