Do yourself a favor, use a third-party control like Mabry's SocketX control. For $50, you get loads of documentation and samples. Yes, the stuff MS provides is free, but the samples, more often than not, are not complete, assuming samples exist. As for the documentation, that is usually underwhelming as well. Why? Because the folks at MS don't really use this stuff in the production of applications.
All Mabry controls have demo versions which represent the full product. In other words, they are not crippled. The demo versions have a splash screen that appears every 3 or 4 times you use the product.
http://www.mabry.comFinally, the SocketX controls ship as both an OCX and a COM DLL. Both of these are included in the $50 price. For $125, you get the full C++ source. Not a bad deal at all.
Think of it this way, you have probably spent more than $50 of your time figuring out how the MS WinSock Control works.
