It all depends on how the fingerprint scanner works. is it taking a picture, and you are left with writing code to compare the pictures and determine the match? I hope not...

if the fingerprint scanner only gives you a digital characterization of the print patterns... (I believe that the way that fingerprinting works is the locations of key features of the print are stored, and when comparisons are made, these locations are compared against each other) In short, you question is very difficult to answer without knowing more about the specific scanner you are using.
