Check the MSKB (Microsoft KnowledgeBase, available on the TechNet CDs and on the MS Web site) - entry Q183522 discusses it in some detail, and if you do a search of back messages, there's a good deal of discussion about it that's gone on here over the past two or three months. Somewhere in there is a bit of detail I provided on exactly why having the FPU in an inconsistent state can cause problems during task switches, especially when one task is using the FPU and the other is using the MMX instruction set, which on Intel processors use the same set of registers to do different things.
