I fixed my combobox "blanking" problem when I discovered the ControlSource had the correct fieldname, but the field itself was Char1 and should have been Char 2. I had changed from a 1-digit code to a 2-digit code in my table and forgot to change to Char 2.

That tooks a few minutes to discover, but your ControlSource hint helped point me in the right direction.
