This si not a problem with VFP, it is a difference between DOS and Windows. Windows handle low level machine resources itself. Evan's suggestion of using the MSCOMM activeX control is the way to go unless the bar code manufacturer can supply an OCX to do it. Also, most of the bar coders that I've seen used in Windwos feed there text to the keyboard rather than the COMM prot. With these you don't have to anything in VFP expect read the keyboard (with a textbox or something).
