Under VFP6, there's a documented problem with applications that start with the screen hidden (via SCREEN = OFF) in CONFIG.FPW) during shutdown. there's an easy fix - ensure that DCOM is installed on the target system. There's an entry in the FAQ here on UT showing how to test to see if DCOM is installed properly on a system, as well as an MSKB entry based on the code fragment posted here in the FAQ.

DCOM installation can be accomplished in any of several ways. Any system with IE 4 or later installed on it should have DCOM installed already, as should any Win98 system. Win95 systems can add DCOM without installing IE by downloading and running the self-installing executable DCOM95.EXE from Microsoft's Windows Update site for Win95. The executable is roughly 1.1MB in size, and is freely redistributable. It will work with all US versions of Win95 that I'm aware of (I'd strongly recommend upgrading any original Win95 retail systems to at least Win95a by installing the Win95 SR1 patches, available for download from Microsoft's web site as well.)

If a Win98 system shows up with a misinstalled or missing DCOM component, reinstall the operating system. DCOM is a base part of Win98.

WinNT systems need to have NT SP3 or later installed. The most recent service pack for NT is SP5; for people trying to keep their systems incredibly current, there had been 4 hotfixes posted for SP5 as well as of yesterday at 9AM EDT. The NT Service packs are very large, and some care needs to be taken installing them, especially SP4, because of possible conflicts with device drivers (the problems are well documented, and there are workarounds available for them.)

All the Win2K betas have DCOM support built in, just like Win98.

Yo should also install the Visual Studio SP3 upgrade on your development system, and rebuild your runtime distribution using the updated VFP6 Setup Wizard.
