First, well designed Java clients are really thin. The speed is better than the speed of (D)HTML based clients. And you can develop apps that have the same look and feel as any Windows app. All these are good for the customer. For the programmer... one of the best OOP programming languages. A real pleasure. Almost like VFP! :)
I certainly hope Java won't die. It's the best new-comer I've seen in the past 5-6 years.
