I want ot clarify some things for those who couldn't read between the lines of your message:

John is leaving VFP, but he doesn't want to say it because he's afraid of one more "VFP dies" thread. The reason for his gave up is the fact that after so many years, he still cannot write good VFP code. The best prove is that John teaches VFP (those who can't practice, teach)! The result of his teaching: he still doesn't understand VFP, but he understood that he doesn't... :)

Given the fact that OO languages are too much for him, he decided to move to VB (or even VBScript :)). Finally, he accepted that VB is better mainly because it is not OO. The inheritance is just too much for a programmer and VB's special inheritance (known as CTRL-C, CTRL-V) is more on John's level (after all, he wants to reuse some of his code!). :) I will post a message announcing John's arrival to VB on all important VB newsgroups. :) This will give them a BIG break! :)

Now, seriously, thank you for your excelent article on ADO in FPA June 99! It made me understand some issues I couldn't understand before (I'm still very new to ADO).

I have a question: is ADO based on ODBC only or are there also non-ODBC providers? I understand from your article that providers may be ODBC or not (the same in many other sources). But I attended a MS presentation last year and the speaker said several times that everything goes through ODBC (so, ODBC's limmitations will always be found in ADO).

>I have waited making a formal announcement on this. However, you probably have noticed that my profile info references a new company. Main Line Software, Inc. is about a month old now. In terms of technologies, while I will still work in VFP, I am inching toward the realm of web development with tools such as Visual Interdev and Cold Fusion. The company is geared toward these areas:
>
>1. Custom Applications Development
>2. Database analysis and Design
>3. Project Mentoring
>
>In addition, I will still be teaching for Application Developers Training Company. In addition to teaching Visual FoxPro, I will be in the training cycle for Visual Interdev and SQL Server.
>
>My 3 years at IDT were happy ones and I still do work for the company on a consulting basis. However, I needed the freedom to work on projects that comprise a variety of technologies. And, as far as IDT is concerned, my interests began to fall outside the scope of IDT's strategic focus. Simply put, it was time for me to move on.

>And, in case you are wondering about the name Main Line.... I live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia that is collectively known as the Main Line. The towns in the Main Line include Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Devon, and Paoli. The name came from the regional railroad line that runs into Philadelphia.
