Hi all,

We have a software made by VFP6.0 with fat clients and a VFP- database as a back-end in the server. We are using the database thru local views (no ODBC-implementation yet), even thought the real distance between back- and front-end might be over 1000 km.

In LAN environments our application works quite well (even thought those views are not so optimized everywhere), but in WAN - environments the software halts totally if something unexpected happens in the network. When the end user tries to write the data into the database, the system might display error messages like 'The system was attempting to transfer data from buffers to 'myowntablewithpath'. The write operation failed and only some of the data may have been written to the file' or it might happen that the software doesn't say anything during saving, but when user tries to close the entry form, he/she gets 'Table buffer for alias "name" contains uncommitted changes' -message and all data is lost.

We are moving towards a real client/server -solution with thinner clients and a SQL-Server7.0 with some stored procedures as back-end, but do you have any idea how we could improve the situation before that? On the other side, is that development irrelevant in this matter anyway?

Best regards,
Ilkka
