Isn't the answer obvious? Or, perhaps just to me... If a trian traveling from Montreal to Toronto meet a train traveling the opposite direction, The train traveling from Montreal will be closer to Montreal and the train traveling from Toronto will be closer to Toronto... since, where the trains meet the trains would be at the same point, but, each train would be closer to it's point of origin than the other train by the length of that train.
