In one of my projects i seem to have the same problem,

Under what circumstances does it occur ???

My situation

-FREE TABLE was APPENDed to a database table via SCATTER MEMO NAME oVar AND GATHER MEMO NAME oVar

I did suspect it had something to do with codepage translation in a Memo (not Memo Binary) field containing a CHR(0) value.

I used VFP 5.0a
Occurs on Windows 98 environment
