Don't include the Jet-compatible drivers - these are the installable ISAM reference in all probability. If there are no Jet drivers, the ODBC driver will be used in all cases.

You need to check if the ODBC driver for XLS is compatible with the memo field type - there may not be a corresponding data type. If you're reading/writing Excel files, why not use Excel's OLE automation capabilities instead?
