I normal and small grids, i think you're right... But in my case where i use large grids with a lot of features in it (code) the fastscroll function was very nice.

It dissapoints me that the VFP has removed this feature without further notice.
It would have been nice if this behaviour could be controlled with a propertie on the grid.
